Ostrich breeding at Zabol University began in 2002 with the arrival of 70 ostrich chicks from Italy. After the chicks arrived, an adaptation plan for the Sistan region was carried out on these chicks, which yielded satisfactory results. After the flock reached maturity, the work of ostrich breeding began by purchasing incubators from Canada. More than 600 ostrich chicks are produced annually at the Special Livestock Research Institute, which, in addition to implementing research projects on these chicks, enter the consumer market as live and pure meat. Ostriches are resistant and multi-product animals, so that in addition to producing meat, their skin, feathers, eggshells and other parts are used. Ostriches are resistant to diseases and tolerate temperatures of +56 and -30 degrees Celsius.
