Introduction

The preservation and conservation of the Hamoon International Wetland will be realized when the Hamoon Wetland is viewed as a cultural, social, and economic element in the Sistan region, in addition to its natural wealth. The protection of this valuable wetland in the Sistan region will be possible if there is sufficient information and knowledge about the processes in this ecosystem, the animal and plant species and their populations, and the factors threatening the wetland and its biodiversity. In line with its scientific and research programs and goals, and in order to increase cooperation with other executive, educational, and research institutions, and considering the existing potential of the region, especially the Hamoon International Wetland, which plays a very important role in the life of the Sistan region, Zabol University obtained the final license for the Hamoon International Wetland Research Institute from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology on 18/9/85. This research institute operates as a leading scientific and research center in the field of protection, restoration, and sustainable use of the Hamoun Wetland and related ecosystems. Using specialized teams and scientific infrastructure, this research institute studies and provides practical solutions, expands basic, applied and developmental research, and increases new technologies for managing environmental and ecological challenges of wetlands. This center also plays an active role in developing regional and international cooperation to use global experiences and knowledge in wetland protection and in line with the sustainable development of the Sistan and Baluchestan region.
